NOSE SURGERY (Rhinoplasty)
A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to improve the appearance of your nose and/or improve breathing difficulties. A consultation with Dr. Dec will help you understand the risks and benefits of surgery.
A rhinoplasty is performed through incisions hidden inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty). Sometimes it is necessary to place a small incision across the skin bridge between the nostrils (open rhinoplasty). The procedure takes approximately one to two hours depending on the extent of surgery. Some patients may benefit from having a chin implant placed at the time of surgery to achieve facial balance.
After surgery, your nose may feel tender and will be covered with a protective splint. Dr. Dec will prescribe medications to reduce pain and risk of infection. Patients typically return home the same day.
It is normal to have a runny nose for two days and feel stuffy for two weeks. Avoid blowing your nose for one week because this may disturb the stitches. Avoid any trauma to your nose after surgery. Bruising around the eyes and nose will take about two weeks to resolve. Sleeping with your head elevated on two pillows will help reduce swelling. You may resume mild activities the day after surgery, return to work in 10 days, and resume strenuous activities after six weeks. You will see an improved shape of your nose after about two weeks; however it may take several months for all the swelling to completely resolve. After surgery the nose looks natural and fits harmoniously with the face.
