As the face ages, it looses subcutaneous fat.  This can make the face appear gaunt and tired.  An extreme opposite of this is the face of a baby, which is full.  Facial fat grafting is a surgical procedure that restores the natural contour of a more youthful face.  A consultation with Dr. Dec will help determine if you are an appropriate candidate for facial fat grafting and help you understand the risks and benefits of surgery. 

Excess fat is taken from other parts of the body and injected into the face through very small incisions concealed in natural creases. The procedure takes approximately one hour.  Fat grafting can be performed alone or in addition to another procedure such as a facelift.

 

After surgery, your face may feel minimally tender.  Dr. Dec will prescribe medications to reduce pain and risk of infection.  Patients typically return home the same day.

 

Bruising and swelling are normal and usually take one week to resolve.  Sleeping with your head elevated on two pillows will help reduce swelling.  You may resume mild activities the day after surgery and strenuous activities after one month.  You will see the final results, a more youthful appearance, after two weeks.  Some of the transferred fat may disappear after several years.  After surgery the face looks natural and an aesthetic improvement is observed.
