Facial wrinkles form when the muscles of facial expression contract and fold the overlying skin like an accordion.  Over time these skin changes can become permanent.  Botox weakens these muscles and improves wrinkles. Botox is delivered as an injection into the forehead and upper face where wrinkles are present.  Often Botox can be combined with injectable fillers to treat deep wrinkles.  The procedure takes less than 30 minutes.

 

The effects of Botox are not immediate; it takes approximately one week to see the full effect of the treatment.  The benefits of Botox typically last three to four months.  Sometimes bruising and swelling of the treated area may occur but this typically resolves in less than one week.
