BREAST REDUCTION
A breast reduction is a surgical procedure performed to reduce the size of the breasts and restore a more youthful breast contour. It is commonly performed to relieve symptoms of back, neck, and shoulder pain. A consultation with Dr. Dec will help determine if you are an appropriate candidate for a breast reduction and help you understand the risks and benefits of surgery.
During a breast reduction, some breast tissue is removed and the remainder is repositioned, the nipple is elevated, the areola is reduced in size, and excess skin is removed. There are various options for where to place the incisions depending on your breast size and degree to which the breast tissue has descended. The procedure takes approximately two to three hours.
After surgery your breasts may feel tender. Dr. Dec will prescribe medications to reduce pain and risk of infection. Patients typically return home the same day.
Bruising and swelling around the breasts are normal and usually take two to three weeks to resolve. Scars soften and fade over the course of several months. You may resume mild activities the day after surgery and strenuous activities after one month. You will see a decrease in your breast size and an improved breast contour immediately after surgery.
