The goal of breast reconstruction is to make the reconstructed breast look natural and symmetric with your healthy breast.  In some cases the best result is achieved by performing surgery on the other healthy breast as well.  Symmetry can be achieved by making the healthy breast larger with an implant, smaller with a breast reduction, or by lifting the breast with a mastopexy.  Following mastectomy reconstruction, this balancing procedure is typically done in a separate operation after you have had a chance to heal from breast reconstruction.  In lumpectomy reconstruction the symmetry procedure, on the healthy breast, can typically be done at the same time as the reconstruction.
