The amount of time needed to complete a breast reconstruction can vary depending on how many surgeries you need, and what other cancer treatment you need. In cases of immediate reconstruction with a direct to implant technique or using your natural tissues the reconstruction is nearly complete the day of your mastectomy. Even in a two stage reconstruction, typically the reconstruction can be completed within a few months. In cases where radiation therapy is used, the reconstruction may be delayed by six months, or more as your tissues recover from the effects of radiation.
